Baraza la Sanaa la Taifa (BASATA) ni Shirika la umma lililoundwa kwa Sheria ya Basata Na. 23 ya Mwaka 1984 kama ilivyofanyiwa marekebisho na Sheria Na. 5 ya Mwaka 2019. Historia inaonyesha kuwa, Sheria ya kuunda upya Baraza hili ilifanywa kwa kuunganishwa Sheria ya Baraza la Sanaa la Taifa ya Mwaka 1974 na Baraza la Muziki la Taifa (BAMUTA) ya Mwaka 1974. Baraza liliundwa ili lisimamie maendeleo ya sanaa nchini
